I have a daughter living here in AZ. Two years ago she started having outbreaks of "sores" on her face and back. She went to the Dr. who said she has Pitiriasis and treated her for it. She then went to a different Dr. who said she has Shingles and treated her for it. Then her eyes were red and itching, Dr. said it's Pink Eye. It got so bad she went to the E.R. and the E.R. Dr. told her those sores are a fungus. He then told her to go to a Dermatologist and tell them. My question is: spores can attach to the skin and cause those pimple/zit like sores?

I don't know if they come from the inside or the outside but since I got VF, I get those. I use baby wipes and miconazole% [Vagisil] to keep them under control. If you keep the skin really clean, it seems to help. I assume it is a fungus because miconazole is an anti-fungal and it will stop them from getting worse and eventually dry them up. Please have her tested for VF as a precautionary measure.

All the best,
Susan

Hi Susan,

I was thinking of you as I wrote about my daughter. You had mentioned having this also and I couldn't remember what it was you used. Thank you for your prompt reply. She has an app't with a dermatologist tomorrow morning and I told her she would probably have to ask to be tested for V.F. as there isn't a lot of Dr's who know about V.F. I'm hoping they do a 'scraping' and a blood test. Thank you again for your help.

I developed a rash like that during one of my work related visits to Phoenix a few years ago. It looked so much like poison oak that I went to a local dr and asked for cortisone. The cortisone eliminated the itching and the redness within 2 days but a faint rash remained on the arms where it had been red before. I just learned to live with it but felt uncomfortable knowing that something was still there.

A few years later I came down with disseminated VF and started taking fluconazole. And to my surprise all signs of the rash disappeared.

The conclusion was that it was a fungal infection and may have been cocci all along without knowing it.
