Hello All,
I am glad I found this site after feeling so lost and alone for several days. I was diagnosed with VF on May 12th where my doctor told me that my blood test showed that I just was infected with VF in the last 5 weeks. It all started on May 6th when I noticed that I had an odd rash all over my legs and a few on my arms. Immediately I was alarmed and made an appointment with my doctor and this is what led to the diagnosis. Shorty after the rash came a horrible cough and fever and the rash became very painful. I called several times before my blood came back in and the doctor could only give me an antibiotic until the VF was confirmed. The antibiotic did nothing and finally on May 12th when it was confirmed she gave me Fluconazole. I took this until 5/18 when I was told to stop because suddenly my feet and ankles began to swell so big. I got so scared and went to urgent care where they could not do a thing. Finally on 5/19 I was able to get in with my doctor who told me that it could be an allergic reaction to the Flucanazole so I was told to stop taking it. My rash did seem to mostly go away but now since I am off of Flucanazole I am afraid it will come back. I did notice a new red bump on my ear today which frightened me Sad. Anyway, now I am on some sort of medication that is supposed to stop the swelling. The doctor ordered me to take a new blood test to see if my organs are still healthy enough for other treatment. Today i have another new symptom of back pain, I don't know what this means if it is spreading or what but I am really scared and nervous. I also have missed about a week of work. I am a 26 year old healthy girl, at least I was a few weeks ago! I am currently waiting to see a VF specialist in june as recommended by my doctor so I am hoping he can help me knock this out. Any advice would be helpful, thank you all for reading and I hope you are getting the help you need Very Happy

Hi Allie,

Although Valley Fever can do a wide variety of things, there is no specific guarantee that just because something is abnormal that it truly was caused by Valley Fever. In fact, the rashes are often an allergic reaction that indicate the immune system recognizes the VF - an important part of being able to fight it.

I do not want to minimize pains since they often are the first clue of something going on, but generalized back pain can come from many, many causes and not often VF. Some of the effects you experienced could even be due to the side effects of the antibiotic or anti-swelling medication.

What you could do is find out more about their potential side effects and also whether it would be medically approved to take a probiotic supplement to counteract the effect of the useless antibacterial antibiotic you had received earlier. This would be useful to protect your natural gut flora.

All my best,
