I have just been told I have something wrong with the kidney. I will find out on Monday and wonder if anyone else has had treatment and if so what?
What can I expect and also look for. I will ask for a biopsy if I do not get answers.........like no it can not be VF. I have some information from VFSurvivor to take, but I lean a lot on the people that actaully are dealing with it and will tell the doctor what is happening to others.
Thanks. _________________ I have just be told I have Valley Fever.

Carol,
I answered you on facebook about what my brother's kidney problems entailed. Let me know if you didn't get it. _________________ God Bless you and keep you,

I am in stage three of kidney disease and have been for two years. I am trying to not get worse by lowering my potassium input (bad for kidneys). This is not an easy task if you check out what foods have potassium and how much is really there, not to mention processed foods. Of course I never had a kidney problem prior to VF, but as usual the Drs can't (wont?) say if it is related. So VF for 10 years, now kidney disease for two.. what's next?? _________________ Warm Regards,

Jerry,
I am stage 3 kidney disease, also. But it runs in my family. Mom died from it 2 years ago. A kidney disease diet is soooo limited! If you happen to have diabetes with it, then you really are limited. You have to be careful of too much protein and phosphorous, too. I love cantaloupe and but it has high phosphorous. Even good foods can be bad for the kidneys. It would be easier if they just told us what we COULD eat instead of what we CANNOT eat. The list is pretty short. _________________ God Bless you and keep you,

Kathy, yes I am also diabetic. Here are some food facts given to me by my Dr.
The following foods are high in potassium and should be restricted:
Vegetables:
Artichokes
Beet greens
Broccoli
Brussels sprouts
Carrots, raw
Eggplant
Mushrooms
Potatoes
Pumpkin
Spinach
Swiss chard and other dark green vegetables
Sweet potatoes
Tomato, tomato juice, tomato paste, tomato sauce
Winter squash
Fruits:
Apricots
Banana
Cantaloupe
Dried fruits- dates, raisins, figs, prunes
Oranges
Orange juice
Mango
Papaya
Prune juice
Other foods:
Avocado
100% bran cereal
Chocolate
Dried beans and peas
Evaporated milk
Granola
Lentils
Nuts and seeds
Peanuts
Whole grain breads and cereals
Wheat germ
Seasonings:
Salt substitutes
The following foods are lower in potassium, limit to no more than four ½ cup servings of fruits and vegetables daily.
Fruits:
Apples
Blueberries
Grapefruit (I cant eat grapefruit because of the meds I take)
Grapes
Pineapple
Plum
Vegetables:
Bean sprouts
Beets, pickled
Celery
Corn (limited because of diabetes)
Lettuce, loose leaf
Jalapenos (yippie)
Radishes
Breads and Cereals:
Bagels
White bread (sourdough)
Graham crackers
Tortillas, corn and flour
Tofu
Potassium is a mineral found in large amounts in fruits, vegetables, and milk. Too much potassium is DANGEROUS!
Select no more than four ½ cup servings of fruits and vegetables daily. (This includes juice) Select less than ½ cup daily of milk or milk products. _________________ Warm Regards,
Jerry

Jerry,
Thanks for the list. I have been a Weight Watcher lifetime member for 24 years. Almost all the things I used to eat to stay healthy are now off limits or limited. I have gained 15 pounds since I found out about my kidneys. There are some really good websites that deal with kidney disease. I learned a lot when Mom was diagnosed with it. I guess we probably are boring people with our talk of kidney diets when they are suffering from something much worse with VF. I know you have suffered much from it yourself. Thanks again. _________________ God Bless you and keep you,

Wow, what a list!! Thanks Budster. My kidneys are in trouble too. Most notably from the urinary tract infections (UTI's) that are so prevalent in people with spinal cord injuries (like me). I have valley fever to thank for that situation. Mine is a non-traumatic spinal cord injury which was incurred when VF (cocci-meningitis) caused my spinal cord to swell. It placed me in a wheelchair which was the best of all possible outcomes. I very nearly died. I'm doing very well despite the 102 degree temperature that I've been experiencing this week because of my current UTI infection. I had a very close disabled friend that passed away because he let his UTI progress to his kidneys. Spinal cord injuries come with many more complications than the obvious. Your list will undoubtedly help me.
Thanks,
Robin
